Avera Behavioral Health Hospital & Doctor’s Plaza West

This project is a new 130,000 sf facility which houses a 110 bed behavioral health hospital, medical office building, and an interior light court. The building is also connected to the Avera Heart Hospital through a connecting link. Behavioral Health Hospital includes separate wings for children, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The facility includes a light court with a full service kitchen, deli, and a two tier water feature sitting over a private meditation space. Journey Construction worked with the Owner and design team at the early stages of the project to identify and evaluate several options affecting the project budget, constructability, and schedule. The phased implementation of separate construction documents allowed construction to start in the fall of 2004 while the interior and mechanical/electrical packages were still in design. This allowed Journey Construction to complete the project in 18 months.
