Avera Heart Hospital Advanced Cardiac & Vascular Imaging Center

This $21.5 million, 35,000 sq. ft., three-story addition to the Avera Heart Hospital marks the facility’s largest expansion since its original construction in 2001. Located on the north side of the hospital along I-229, the new Advanced Cardiac & Vascular Imaging Center will bring state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and patient-focused design under one roof. The addition includes imaging suites for PET/CT, SPECT with CZT technology, MRI, echocardiography, vascular sonography, and nuclear stress testing, supported by specialized shielding systems for safety and precision. Constructed with a structural steel and precast system on a deep foundation, the building’s exterior features precast panels, curtainwall glazing, and metal panels, highlighted by a five-foot illuminated EKG feature visible from the interstate. The garden level will house MRI and CT equipment while the ground floor will include the main diagnostic areas, with the third floor being reserved for future expansion. By relocating imaging services to the new facility, Avera will free up space in the existing hospital for additional clinic and surgical capacity. The expansion enhances efficiency, patient comfort, and accessibility, advancing Avera’s commitment to world-class heart and vascular care for the region.
